Why Use Hyperactive

See

Hyperactive is historically linked to the old active project that was first used during the WTO protests in Seattle in 1999. When this was set up it was the first time that there had been any kind of open publishing system on the internet. This was long before blogging and social networking that now largely fulfil this roll.

Some IMCs use Drupal and others, but they are always heavily modded. Hyperactive was developed specifically for Indymedia centres. One of the main things is that it is completely anonymous. A lot of work has gone in to ensuring no IPs are logged and that security is very very tight, as IMCs are often targeted.

Many IMCs serve places with very oppressive governments, and anonymity is extremely important in these situations. Hyperactive was originally developed by a member of the UK collective in London, to address all the issues UK IMCs have faced over the last 10 years. The thing is, each IMC is run by it’s own autonomous collective, who decide the best platform for their site. Today, there are many IMCs around the world in just about every language. But, what platform works for one collective may not be appropriate for another.
